Who You Are in Christ: The Power of God’s Covenant

What Is a Biblical Covenant?
When God chose to reveal His deep love to humanity, He did so through the framework of a covenant—a solemn, binding commitment sealed by blood.
In Genesis 15, God commanded Abram to cut animal sacrifices in two. In ancient times, both parties in a covenant would walk between the slain animals, signifying: "May I be split open if I fail to keep my word."
But when the sun set, God put Abram into a deep sleep. A smoking firepot and blazing torch—representing God Himself—passed between the pieces alone. God was demonstrating that this covenant was anchored entirely in His unconditional grace, not human performance.
The Promise of the New Covenant in Jesus
Throughout history, God prepared humanity for an even deeper intimacy. Through the prophet Jeremiah, God promised a New Covenant—not written on tablets of stone but written directly on human hearts. This New Covenant was ratified not by the blood of bulls or goats, but by the precious blood of the innocent Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.
Through faith in Jesus, you enter into a spiritual union likened to a Holy Marriage. You become one with Him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17). Jesus prayed for this exact reality in John 17:21: "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us."
3 Ways Your Identity in Christ Changes Everything
Being in a blood covenant with God transforms everything:
1. Your Standing Changes: You are no longer an outsider or an orphan; you are a child of God and a joint heir with Christ.
2. Your Desires Change: As intimacy with God grows, your priorities realign with His will, enabling you to pray with bold authority and expect answers.
3. Your Resources Change: All that belongs to Christ—His righteousness, His wisdom, His peace—is made available to you.
Knowing who you are in Christ gives you the confidence to soar far above a life of mediocrity. When you truly believe what God says about your standing with Him, you begin to pray with bold expectation.
