In our daily three-minute meditations at groupbiblestudy.com, we focus on the Holy Spirit. Paul the apostle describes the seven motivational gifts in Romans 12:6-8. Today, we highlight the second and fifth gifts Paul mentions—the Gift of Serving and the Gift of Giving. What Paul is describing is Practical Love in Action.

While some are called to speak from platforms, others are called to the "ministry of the towel." Have you ever felt a surge of energy simply by meeting a practical need—fixing a car, organizing a meal, or quietly writing a check to cover someone's bills? These gifts of Serving and Giving are the hands and feet of Jesus made visible in the world.

The Motivational Gift of Service: Practical Love in Action

Someone with the gift of service finds joy in showing God's kindness through concrete actions. They notice needs and address them, often without being asked.

For example, a friend of mine, a Gentile, was honored with the title "Mother in Israel." After seeing news about refugees during the 1982 Lebanon War—who were forced into Israel—she cleared out her car seats and frequently went back and forth, bringing essentials for mothers and children with nothing but the clothes they wore. This gift inspires others through action, embodying the Lord's compassion for those in pain and fear.

The Motivational Gift of Giving: Quiet Generosity

Similarly, the gift of giving is the ability to manage and share resources generously and joyfully. They are often skilled at finding the best deals, noticing overlooked needs, and managing resources.

Givers often avoid the limelight and work in secret, trusting God as their ultimate provider. Both of these gifts reflect the character of Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve. If this is you, remember that your "hidden" work is seen by the Father, and it is vital for the growth of His family. — Keith Thomas

How to Apply These Spiritual Gifts Today

If you feel energized by helping behind the scenes, you likely carry one of these two practical motivations. Here is a simple framework to activate your gifting today:

·       The 60-Second Scan: Look at your immediate circle (family, small group, or neighborhood). Who is currently overwhelmed by a logistical chore or a practical need?

·       Take a 'Ministry of the Towel' Action: Choose one micro-action that can be done quietly. It could be sending a text offering to pick up groceries, fixing a broken item, or quietly mailing a gift card.

·       Guard Your Heart: If your gift is Service, practice saying "yes" to needs out of Holy Spirit energy rather than empty obligation. If your gift is Giving, challenge yourself to keep your contribution a total secret to protect your joy with the Father.
