In our daily Group Bible Study meditations, we are focusing on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. In learning to walk according to the Spirit and not lean on the arms of flesh, we need The Practice of Humility and Repentance.
What It Means to Keep Short Accounts with God
The Puritans had a wise saying: "Keep short accounts with God." In a world that urges us to justify our actions and conceal our flaws, the Holy Spirit calls us to a different approach: to be honest and humble from the start. Holding onto sin makes our souls heavy, burdens us, and makes life tough while making God seem distant. Conversely, confessing our sins to God brings the freeing relief of grace, lifting the weight from our shoulders.
The Cost of Concealing Our Mistakes
King David learned the hard way what happens when you try to "cover up" iniquity. He described his bones wasting away and his strength being sapped like the heat of summer while he kept silent about his sin (Psalm 32:3-4). It wasn't until he acknowledged his transgressions that the "guilt of his sin" was forgiven and his peace returned.
How Humility Invites the Holy Spirit's Power
To walk in step with the Holy Spirit and to have His power flow through us, we must be quick to agree with Him when He convicts us. Our stubborn resistance to the Holy Spirit's correction blocks His ability to lead us. On the other hand, humility attracts grace. As Scripture says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Ask yourself today: Is there anyone I need to forgive? Do I need to ask for forgiveness? Don't let your "accounts" with God or others grow long. The enemy, the "accuser of the brothers," thrives on the secrets we keep. When we are quick to admit our faults without making excuses, we clear the way for the Spirit’s power to flow through us once again.

Actionable Real-Life Application
· The "End-of-Day" Audit: Don't let the sun go down on unconfessed friction. Before sleep, take two minutes to review your day. Did you snap at a coworker? Were you dishonest in a small moment? Confess it immediately right there in bed so the account closes before a new day begins.
· The 5-Second Rule for Apologies: If the Holy Spirit nudges you that you hurt someone, you have a 5-second window to apologize before your mind starts making up proud excuses. Text or tell them right away: "Hey, I was wrong to say that earlier. Please forgive me." No excuses, no "buts."
