The Working of Miracles Spiritual Gift: Activating God's Power Today

In our daily three-minute meditations at groupbiblestudy.com, our continuing focus is on the Holy Spirit and the Spiritual Gifts, which the apostle Paul wrote about in 1 Corinthians, chapters 12 and 14. Our theme today is The Working of Miracles.

What is the Biblical Meaning of the Working of Miracles?

A miracle is an event that "alters the normal course of nature". Whether it’s commanding a demonic whirlwind to stop or seeing a collapsed mine become a pulpit for the Gospel, miracles remind us that God’s authority is absolute. He is not a God of the past; He is the God of the "now" who still performs powerful acts to reveal His glory.

God will do His work in your life according to what you believe and what you receive. Jesus frequently told people that their faith brought them the healing, deliverance, and forgiveness they needed. God did miracles through the early disciples.

Understanding "Energemata Dynameon" in 1 Corinthians 12

The spiritual gifts of miracles and healing are both described in the plural (1 Corinthians 12:10). The Greek phrase energemata dynameon literally means “workings of powers.” The double plural suggests that these gifts were varied and not always available at the believer's will. Instead, they were gracelets granted at different times and under different circumstances. Therefore, these gifts depend on God's divine will and purpose and are under His control.

How the Holy Spirit Demonstrates Divine Power

These aren't just "lucky breaks"; they are divine interventions in which God humbles human logic to reveal His presence. We see this in the lives of the Apostles, as well as in "ordinary" believers like Stephen and Philip.

Those who operate in this gift don't chase attention; they chase the glory of Jesus. They are often people of "persistent intercession" who recognize that God is free to act whenever He wills. In regions of great darkness, these miracles often shine the brightest, leading thousands to Christ in a single moment. Don't settle for a "form of godliness" that denies His power. We serve a miracle-working God who is looking for hearts fully committed to Him.

Daily Reflection: A 3-Minute Breath Prayer for Miracles

What is a situation in your life that requires more than a "tweak"—it requires a miracle?

Breath Prayer:

  • Inhale: "You are the God of miracles."

  • Exhale: "Nothing is too hard for You."

How to Apply This to Your Life Today

The working of miracles is ultimately about God’s timing and sovereignty, but we can position our hearts to receive and witness His power. Here are three ways to apply this teaching today:

  • Surrender Your Logic: Miracles defy human reasoning. Write down the one "impossible" situation you are facing and consciously tell God, "I stop trying to fix this with human logic; I leave room for Your divine intervention."

  • Practice Persistent Intercession: We said that those who see miracles are people of persistent prayer. Commit to praying for your impossible situation every day this week, not out of desperation, but out of total confidence in God's authority.

  • Shift Your Focus to God’s Glory: If you are asking for a miracle (healing, financial breakthrough, restored relationship), ensure your ultimate desire is for Jesus to be glorified through the outcome, rather than just getting a quick fix.
