In our daily three-minute meditations at groupbiblestudy.com, our continuing focus is on the Holy Spirit and the Spiritual Gifts, also known as the Manifestation Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which the apostle Paul wrote about in 1 Corinthians, chapters 12 and 14. Our theme today is The Word of Knowledge.
The Manifestation Gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians
Imagine standing by an emergency button all day, every day, in a remote mine. Suddenly, you hear a voice in your soul say, "Push the button!" There is no visible danger, and pushing it would stop all work for 3,000 men. Would you have the courage to obey? This is the power of a Word of Knowledge—supernatural information given by God to save lives and reveal His glory.
What Is the Word of Knowledge Spiritual Gift?
The Word of Knowledge is the special ability God gives to reveal facts pertinent to a situation that are unknown to the believer. We see this when Paul was given insight to depart from Asia Minor for Macedonia; he was given a vision of a man from Macedonia asking him to come. Then there’s the occasion when Peter knew that Ananias and Sapphira were lying (Acts 5:1-11).
A Word of Knowledge may come as an inner knowing, a mental image, or even a physical sensation. This gift often appears while praying for someone, when you sense they are facing a specific struggle.
A Modern Miracle: The Story of the Red Button
In China, “Sister Li” worked above an iron mine near a red warning button that she was to press only if her supervisor, who monitored the tremor sensors, instructed her to do so. One day, she sensed the Lord prompting her to press it. At first, she resisted the strong impression, but when it came again, she obeyed and sounded the alarm, calling all 3,000 miners out of the mine. Moments later, an earthquake collapsed the mine. Her obedience saved their lives. All 3000 people and the supervisor came to the Lord when she told them that the Lord loved them and had told her to hit the red button. Her “knowing” was to testify that Jesus is the living God who loves and saves. When God gives you a nudge about someone today, do not dismiss it as a random thought. It may be the very key that opens their heart to faith. Keith Thomas
How to Practice the Word of Knowledge Today
When God gives a "Word of Knowledge," it doesn't always feel like a booming voice. Often, it feels like a subtle nudge. Here is how you can practice recognizing and acting on it in your daily life:
· Pause and Validate: The next time a specific person randomly pops into your head out of nowhere, don't brush it off as a distraction. Take 10 seconds to pray for them right then.
· Send a Low-Pressure Text: Reach out with zero pressure. You don't have to say, "God gave me a revelation about you." Just say, "Hey, you randomly came to my mind today! Just wanted to check in and see how you're doing."
· Listen Without Interrupting: If they open up about a struggle they are experiencing, listen. Your simple text might be the exact confirmation they needed to know that God sees them.
Reflection: The Breath Prayer
Has God ever put a "random" person or need on your mind? What happened when you acted on it?.
Breath Prayer: Inhale: "You see all things." Exhale: "I will obey Your nudge."
