Angels Watch Over and Serve God’s People.

In yesterday's daily meditation, we discussed an invisible realm that intersects with the earth. Elisha had to pray for his servant to open his eyes to see the heavenly angelic beings sent to assist them. If you are a believer in Christ, you are a servant of the Living God and have angelic hosts in that unseen realm that God directs to help you.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14).

How much do we value divine help when we are in need? God sends angels to serve us even before we believe in Christ. The Scripture is in the future tense. Angels are sent to help and protect those who will inherit salvation. That means God is working ahead of time on behalf of those who choose to follow Him. Even when we were babies, Scripture indicates that we had an unseen protector, an angel watching over us.

See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven (Matthew 18:10).

We do not pray to angels for their help. Instead, our prayers are directed to the Father, in whom we place our trust. Angelic beings follow their instructions from the Father. It is faith in God that connects us to this unseen realm, just as faith in God opened the servant's eyes in the Scripture passage we discussed yesterday. Every believer in Christ has an angel watching over them (Acts 12:15), sent to serve the heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14).

Many Christians resemble Elisha's servant, unaware of God's power and supernatural resources. Many believers in Christ in the West have little room for the supernatural. For the most part, we are unaware of angelic beings and demonic spirits in the unseen realm. How often do we miss seeing God's power at work and Satan's kingdom being displaced because we do not seek God for divine resources and intervention? Although God is sovereign and all-powerful, He chooses to work with His people through prayer and faith. To help you understand the reality of the unseen world affecting the physical realm, let me tell you a true story:

Brian, an old friend of mine from Harwich in Essex, England, used to be involved in spiritual practices of an occult nature before he came to Christ. He was unaware of the dangers he was bringing into his home. His family started hearing voices and seeing spirits after playing with an Ouija board a few times, which is something dark and dangerous to one's soul. His children became used to seeing disembodied spirits that deceived them into thinking they were spirit guides. The family knew the spirits by name and were convinced that "white magic" was harmless. Everything changed one night when chaos erupted, and demons began to appear to them. They were terrified and realized they had been involved with something very dark and far from harmless. The horrifying things they saw and heard in their home left them all shaken.

These manifestations persisted all day until Brian looked up the address of the local evangelical church pastor, Harry Hughes, and began walking to his house for help. On the way, he heard audible voices warning, "If you go to his house, we will kill you all." Concerned for his family's safety, Brian ignored the threatening voices and went to see Harry Hughes. Harry arrived and cleansed their house, praying and taking authority over every evil spirit in their home while removing all occult tokens. He then led the family in prayers of repentance and renunciation of every evil influence that dark spirits had over them. They concluded the dedication of their home by worshiping God. When Brian and his family committed their lives to Christ, repented, renounced, and abandoned all involvement with the occult, God completely renewed their lives. From that moment on, no demonic activity occurred in their house. The unseen world is very real, and we are deceived if we believe that realm has no impact on our lives. Keith Thomas
